Last week, we closed the bakeshop down for an entire day to have a team field trip. It really was a day that I can’t stop thinking about. I know that if it had this much of an impression on me, then our team felt the magic in their bones too. We spent an entire day, driving 100 miles around the lowcountry, visiting some backbone farmers that make our tiny bakeshop and this part of the country so damn special.

8AM: We started our morning at BABAS ON MEETING with a gorgeous morning spread on their patio. Breakfast tacos, avocado toast, pastry plates, biscuit towers, iced coffees and more. Edward being Edward, sent us on our way with a gallon of iced peanut mochas for the road while we packed up to head out to Edisto Island.

9:45AM: Our team caravan, all 18 of us- minus one, we missed you kam, made it out to Edisto Island to visit MARSH HEN MILL. Marsh Hen Mill is operated by a dear friend and legend, Gregory Johnsman. They are known for their revival and homage to growing and processing heirloom grains & corn; yellow corn, jimmy red corn, Carolina gold rice, farro piccolo, benne seeds and more. Alan gave us an in depth tour of their facility and their processes, it was SO FUN and we all walked away with a wealth of knowledge and appreciation for their commitment to their work. This visit was particularly special to Zachary and I, as when we first started dating, we would spend our day offs road tripping out to Edisto, listening to Sam Cooke, and a stop at the Marsh Hen Mill General Store (Back then Geechie Boy) on our way out to Botany Bay was. must.

11AM: We ended our time at the mill walking around their sweet farm store, buying up merch, grits, and more. A sunny picnic lunch was had with focaccia sandwiches by the PORCHETTA SHOP to keep us nice and satiated for our drive out to Johns Island.
